Ingredients

  • 12 frozen pork dumplings or dumplings of choice
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 green onions sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables such as bok choy, carrots, or mushrooms

Equipment

  • Large soup pot or Dutch oven
  • Sharp knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or ladle
  • Small bowl (for mixing cornstarch slurry if you prefer thicker broth)

Method

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients
  2. Begin by finely mincing the garlic and ginger. Slice the green onions thinly and set aside for garnish. If using fresh vegetables like bok choy or carrots, chop them into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Simmer the Broth
  4. In a large pot, pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat. The broth is the foundation of the soup, so allow it to warm gradually to develop its flavor.
  5. Cook the Dumplings
  6. Carefully drop the frozen dumplings into the simmering broth. Stir gently to prevent sticking, then cook them according to the package instructions, usually around 6–8 minutes, until tender and floating at the surface.
  7. Add Aromatics and Vegetables
  8. Stir in the minced garlic, ginger, and your choice of mixed vegetables. Let everything cook together for 3–5 minutes until the vegetables are just tender but still slightly crisp, adding texture to the soup.
  9. Finish with Flavor
  10. Drizzle in the sesame oil for a nutty richness. Taste the broth and adjust seasoning as needed with a pinch of salt, soy sauce, or even a dash of pepper.
  11. Serve and Garnish
  12. Ladle the soup into bowls, making sure each serving gets plenty of dumplings and vegetables. Garnish with fresh green onions for brightness and crunch. Serve immediately while steaming hot.
